(male announcer) this is the bay area news station, kron 4 news starts now. >> developing news tonight at five. the federal aviation administration has now grounded all boeing 7-87 dreamliner flights. this action comes after multiple problems with the planes in recent weeks. grant lodes is standing by with more, grant? a short time ago the f-a-a issued an emergency safety order - requiring u-s airlines to stop operating the 787 dreamliner - at least for until officials can sort out what's been causing these problems. the issues are primarily related to batteries on the plane.and the risk of fire caused by those batteries

>> pam: president obama, taking action aimed at reducing gun violence in america. he signed more than a dozen executive orders -- and is urging congress for even tighter controls on weapons. tonight, kron4's poltical analyst is standing by. we'll get his take ahead. but first, catherine heenan has more on the president's newly unveiled gun control proposals. catherine? >> catherine: the president is betting shifted just enough - to back him on the broadest push for gun control in a generation. in politics. staging is key. four children. each of them had written letters to him about last month's school massacre in connecticut. the president announced plans to introduce legislation next week that includes a ban on new assault weapons, limits on high capacity ammo clips.and expanded background checks. and more money for mental health care. without waiting for congress.the president acted on his own authority in signing 23 executive actions

carrying passengers from a base at the gas field to an airport. at least two people were killed and six others injured. this is a google earth map of the british petroleum gas field where the attack happened in eastern algeria. u-s officials today confirmed americans were among the hostages, but would not say how many were taken. indications are the attakers are affiliated with al qaeda and based in mali. militants from mali may be making good on their threats of revenge for the french intervention. agence france-presse spoke to one of the attackers by phone. he identified himself to agence france-presse as an al qaeda loyalist from mali. defense secretary leon panetta has called it a - quote- 'terrorist act.' the militants reportedly launched the attack in anger over algiers' support of the french offensive in mali. meantime, the u-s embassy has issued an emergency message to u-s citizens in

the median price paid for a home in the nine- bay area counties. was $442,750 in december of 2012. that's up - 32 percent from december of 2011. when the median home price was $335,500. and as kron four's terisa estacio reports, real estate agents say, they are seeing this jump first hand. and predict. the numbers are just going to keep going up. >> this is a family room and kitchen. this is a typical home in the dublin area, new construction >> reporter: real estate agent jim anderegg says business is booming right now. and this 5 bedroom, 3 and a half bathroom home in dublin is an example of what is fueling those busy days. kerman this home is closing this week. >> this this sold the first day it was on the market. it was listed for 825, a year and a half ago it was 750, that is a nice profit.

>> pam: the gun buy back in marin netted some very dangerous weapons yesterday this is an ak-47 style assault weapon that was collected at the point reyes drop-off point. it's believed to be fully automatic.and illegal to own. in all 827 firearms were turned in. the event was so popular that organizers paid out their 43-thousand dollar budget within a few hours. then they handed out 70- thousand dollars worth of vouchers, which the district attorney says he'll try to repay with privately raised funds. but this could mean that a second buy back scheduled for monday could be cancelled or re-structured.
